All Hands on Deck!

The Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute (ASMI) held their "All Hands" meeting, November 28-30. The resounding high point of the meeting was the increase in the value of Alaska seafood in 2016 for all catches, with the exception of king crab. Salmon was up 30%, pollock jumped 24%, halibut increased 12%, cod rose 10%, and other seafood species came up 10%. King crab suffered a 30% decrease.

2017 early ex-vessel estimates are almost 67% higher than 2016, marking the 3rd largest in 40 years, in both volume and value.

Additionally, the seafood industry directly employs more workers than any other industry in Alaska and, trailing oil and visitor industries, is the 3rd largest overall job creator in the state.
